All but three of the attractive woodcuts of starfish were drawn by the author, Edward Forbes (1815 –1854) . The work also includes a number of truly delightful vignettes by other artists, which Forbes describes as ‘interesting embellishments’.
Condition
Cont. half leather, gilt, raised bands to spine, marbled endpapers. Inner hinges neatly reinforced with linen strips. Richard Hamond's copy with a few scientific names added in ink to text. Vg
