Description:

Memoirs of the Indian Museum Vol. V. A detailed study of Chilka Lake, a brackish water lagoon, which covers the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of Odisha state on the east coast of India. The lake connects with the Bay of Bengal. With an area of 350 square miles, it is the largest coastal lagoon in India. This survey was conducted by Nelson Annandale (1876-1924) (Superintendent of the Indian Museum, Calcutta) together with the marine biologist Stanley Wells Kemp (1882-1945) during 1914, they hired 'the only steam-launch on the lake' to conduct the study. Following an introduction to the geography and hydography of the lake, other papers by a number of experts cover the Sponges, Crustacea, Mollusca, Fish, Aquatic Insects and Leeches of the Lake.
