Condition

8vo, orig. brown cloth with decorative blind-stamped border to both boards, head of spine worn/chipped. From the library of the British entomologist, W.H.T. Tams (1891-1980) with his signature to endpaper. Neat annotations to text and a few loose manuscript sheets, possibly in Tams' hand. Several manuscript letters addressed to Richard South enclosed, one from a Thomas Greer, Lissan, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, dated Jan. 1908, with records of localities for 'more uncommon species of Lepidoptera' taken mostly around Lissan, which the author hopes South will be able to use, 'in the second series of your work on British Moths'. Two further manuscript letters to Richard South from Percy Bicknell, Gurteen, Shinrone, 2nd February 1908 and London, 13 February 1908, with some records of Lepidoptera from N. Tipperay for 1906-1907. Loosely inserted is a hand-coloured plate from 'Entomologist's Monthly Magazine' showing varieties of Melitaea aurinea (Marsh Fritillary).
