During a long and productive lifetime Jameson distinguished himself as a keeper of the Edinburgh University museum and its library, greatly expanding each; as a teacher for fifty years, with many distinguished pupils, most notably, Charles Darwin; as an editor of the distinguished 'Edinburgh New Philosophical Journal', a publication open to emerging new scientific ideas; and as an author of numerous books, 'System of Mineralogy' being his most important work. 8vo, 3 vols, later half morocco, leather title-pieces to spines; worming to lower blank margins of the first 16 pages of the first volume, some foxing to plates, one ink annotation to plate 9. From an institutional library, no stamps or labels, but with the library logo in gilt to the spines. Fine set.
