Daniel Paterson (1738-1825) was a compiler of road books and cartographer. By 1771, and until at least 1791, he was an assistant to the quartermaster-general of HM forces at the Horse Guards, London. On 31 December 1812 he was made lieutenant-governor of Quebec, and held the appointment until his death. This appointment was a sinecure and it seems unlikely that Paterson ever went to Canada.
