- Published In : Port Louis
Description:
First edition. A remarkable bibliography, the stated aim being to record ‘every relevant piece or set of printed, manuscript and cartographic material relative to the island of Mauritius and its Dependencies from 1502 to the end of 1954’. Mauritius was known to European seamen from the beginning of the 16th century and open to European settlement in 1638. It developed one of the earliest printing centres of the Southern Hemisphere, with a fine printing record, dating from 1768, which is listed in this work for the first time.
