Rare. In 1857, the German zoologist Albert C.L.G. Günther (1830-1914) was appointed as assistant in the divisions of ichthyology and herpetology at the British Museum (Natural History) and later became Keeper of Zoology. This catalogue is one of his important contributions to herpetology, describing all the species (some 1,691) of tail-less Batrachians in the Museum's collections. The fine lithographs of frogs and toads were drawn by G.H. Ford and printed by W. West. Nissen ZBI 1739.
