First English edition, translated by Basil Creighton (first Austrian edition published in Vienna in 1955). Cho Oyu, which means "Turquoise Goddess" in Tibetan is the seventh highest mountain in the world, was conquered in 1954 by Herbert Tichy and his small expedition. Tichy's description of the final ascent is one of the finest in mountaineering literature. With a foreword by SirJohn Hunt. Jacket design by Faith Jaques.

8vo, orig. cloth; some spotting to edges. Vg in d/w (a few nicks and short edge tears, spine slightly sunned, some light foxing; in removable protective sleeve). From the library of Keith Hyatt (d. 2021), acarologist at the Natural History Museum, London, and prominent member of the London Natural History Society, with his name to front pastedown.
