Michel Edmond de Selys Longchamps (1813-1900), is known as the founder of Odonatology he described over 700 valid species and used wing venation as the basis for the taxonomy for this order. In his will, Selys left a large sum of money to encourage the work of specialists to describe his large zoological collections.
