Description:
Ferdinand Bauer was a travelling botanical painter, recording the plant life of Greece and Asia Minor for the 10-volume 'Flora Graeca'. In 1801, when aged 41, he continued his travels as the natural history painter to the 'Investigator' expedition to map the coast of Australia and document its unknown flora and fauna. Bauer produced thousands of drawings and in 1813, he published a small number of his botanical drawings in 'Illustrationes florae Novae Hollandiae', which was a commercial disaster at the time, but now one of the most sought after of botanical books. This book documents the life and work of Ferdinand Bauer, illustrated by material from the painting and drawing collections of the Natural History Museum, London.
