An account of the three-month tour made in 1871 in Morocco and the Atlas mountains by Sir Joseph Hooker (1817-1911), and travelling companions, Irish naturalist and politician John Ball (1818-1889) and botanist and geologist George Maw (1832-1912). Includes Appendices on the flora and geology of the region. 'The account of its botany and geology is one of the most important works that has been written on the country.' (Playfair).

Sir Joseph Hooker was one of the greatest British botanists and explorers of the nineteenth century. He succeeded his father, Sir William Jackson Hooker, as Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and was a close friend and supporter of Charles Darwin.

8vo, orig. olive cloth with black decorative border and gilt central design to front board, minor rubbing/wear, front inner hinge partially cracked, but firm. Short marginal tear to inner edge of the folding map. A very good copy.
