Description:

First edition. Henry James Slack (1818-1896) was an English journalist, political activist and science writer. He advocated liberal ideas such as the opposition to slavery and the higher education of women. From 1862 Slack edited the 'Intellectual Observer'. He was also a member of the Royal Microscopical Society, serving as president in 1878. This book was written as a popular introduction to microscope studies of pond life.
