The collections upon which this study was based were made off the coast of southern California, in large part from June to August, 1906, and from June to September, 1917. The Dinoflagellata form an important part of the ocean meadows, the source of the primitive food supply of the sea.

4to, cont. buckram, leather title piece, spine faded, small label removed from spine, a few small spots to front board. Owner's name to endpaper. Vg. Inscribed and signed by both authors to Prof. E.W. MacBride. Ernest William MacBride FRS (1866-1940) was a British/Irish marine biologist, one of the last supporters of Lamarckian evolution.
