8vo, orig. cloth, spine darkened, some wear to joints. Foxing to prelims. A 2-page paper relating to this work tipped in facing the chapter on spiders. Also, loosely inserted are, 'The identification and distribution of British ants' by C.A. Collingwood (1964), Trans. Soc. Brit. Ent. 16(3), and BM(NH) Economic Leaflet 9, Ants (1951). From the library of Keith Hyatt (d. 2021), who has noted to the endpaper that this copy came from the library of A.E. Le Gros; both were prominent members of the London Natural History Society. There are ink notes and annotations to the text in Le Gros' hand, including some records from Bookham Common, Surrey. He was a contributor to the Bookham Common Survey Reports.
