Condition
Roy. 8vo, cont. half calf, rubbed and scuffed, raised bands to spine, leather title-piece. Foxing to text, heavier at beginning and end, plates largely clean. Vg. Book-plate of H.E. Hammond, incorporating a hawkmoth larva, and a penny black stamp (reflecting his dual interest in Lepidoptera larvae and philately). Harold Edward Hammond (1902-1963), an amateur British lepidopterist, was best known for his work on the larvae of Lepidoptera. He was an expert in their preservation and wrote several guides to the techniques involved.
