Scarce. 750 copies of each volume were printed. A classic work with fine colour lithographic plates (30 double-page) drawn from life by the authors. (Plates numbered I-XXX, A-D). 'Although the text is now out of date, it is still useful, and the fine illustrations can never be replaced.' - Freeman & Wertheimer. A Supplement was also published in 1889, but is not included here.

Condition
Bound in two volumes, Text and Plates. General and Volume titles present (Volume title for second volume bound following General title for plates), imp. 8vo, cont. half-morocco, raised bands, gilt tooling to spine, teg, marbled boards and endpapers. One page torn (without loss) and professionally repaired. A very good set, without the later Supplement.
