Vol. 1 - Fossil Mammalia (1840) by Richard Owen; vol. 2 - Mammalia (1839) by George R. Waterhouse; vol. 3 - Birds (1841) by John Gould ; Vol. 4 - Fish (1842) by Leonard Jenyns together with Reptiles by Thomas Bell (1843).

Condition

4 vols, 4to, half calf, raised bands, gt tooling, marbled boards and endpapers. Fine set in original, decorative wooden box with hinged lid acting as a display lectern (two inoffensive splits to wood on top panel). Includes the original 18-page prospectus for the work, sample plate, typed letter from the publisher and 'Reservation Certificate', in A4 card portfolio.
