Description:

The Preface explains ‘This African crossing was made as my wife’s idea of a wedding trip’. The author, an experienced big-game hunter summarised the adventure ‘ To be struck by a deadly snake, escape from a crocodile, suffer a grave injury when in waterless bush and with two treacherous carriers, and then meet two white men, an outlaw and a madman, who menaced my wife, was surely as unexpected, even in Africa, as it was unfortunate’.

The couple travelled by canoe down the Kunango and Kubango rivers in Angola, eventually reaching the Zambezi. The work has four appendices: The People of the Mossamedes, Victoria Falls region; The game animals and some birds of the Mossamedes, Victoria Falls region; Physiography, Geology and Climate; Notes on Flora of South Angola and the Northern Kalahari.
