Description:

Includes chromolithographic (Pts I-III) and photographic (Pts IV+V) plates of pests (insects and birds) and their impact, along with interesting b/w engravings of spraying and fumigation equipment, etc., including a locust-crushing machine! Preface to Part V states, 'In publishing Part V, the last but one of the "Destructive Insects of Victoria"…', however, the manuscript for Vol. VI, was prepared but not published until 2013 (Vol. VI is not present here).

Condition

5 vols, 8vo, orig. cloth, some wear/spotting/fading. Plate L (double-page) with some damage caused by adhesion and tape repair along fold. Pts 1-3 and 5 with bookplates/signatures of John Roslyn Garnet (1906- ) who worked at the Commonwealth Health Department Laboratory at Port Pirie 1928-1930, and the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories, Parkville, 1930-1971. He was also active in the conservation and National Parks movements of the same period. Pt 4 with bookplate and ownership stamp of Alfred Alonza Sheldrick (1881-1940), a printer in Malvern, Melborne.
