Initial impressions are very good. A well conceived work giving priority to drawings rather than text. Packed with key identification points which are concisely indicated along with similar species for comparison. A barometric indicator is used for phenology, generations and altitude range which works well. There are ‘keys’ to various genus which use a ‘go to’ method to aid in quick species elimination. The drawings are very good and capture the salient points perfectly. Most natural history books do seem to be on the expensive side and this book is no exception, however, this is a very professionally produced book and one which in my opinion, is well worth the money. With more time to delve deeper in to the book then an even higher rating is foreseen.

Readers beware - The normal convention for naming wing spaces (gaps between veins)has been reversed for the under side of the hind wings for the blue/brown polyommatinae e.g. sp1 has been numbered starting at the costa edge of the hind wing. This can be confusing and is something to keep in mind when referring to the chapter.
