Description:
First editon. Rare. This work was the result of a collaboration between the German zoologist Karl August Möbius, (1825-1908) and his friend and supporter Heinrich Adolf Meyer (1822-1889), a German manufacturer and politician with a fascination for marine biology. Together they conducted a large-scale study of the Kiel fjord. As Raf de Bont states in “Stations in the Field: A History of Place-Based Animal Research, 1870-1930”, 2015, this two-volume work on the Fauna of Kiel Bay “was novel for its sophisticated treatment of “societies” of organisms, which it related to the physical conditions of the geographic zones in the Fjord”. [Nissen ZBI, 2805]
