From the first interception and identification in 1985 by the Haikou Animal and Plant Quarantine Service of Hoplocerambyx spinicornis and Dialeges pauper from imported Shorea treetop timber from Malaysia, to the first interception and identification at the Nanjing port of Cordylomera spinicornis and Batocera rufomaculata from logs imported from West Africa (Gabon), every case embodies the wisdom and dedication of quarantine officers racing against time. This book not only systematically summarises the diagnostic characteristics of more than 110 species of longicorn beetle larvae intercepted and identified at Chinese ports over the past 40 years, but also includes dedicated sections on ‘Field Quarantine Techniques’ and ‘Laboratory Quarantine and Identification Techniques,’ striving to achieve the optimal balance between academic rigour and practical usability.

This is China's first taxonomic work on longicorn beetle larvae specifically designed to meet customs quarantine needs and presented in full-colour, high-definition photographs. It represents decades of painstaking efforts by frontline taxonomists at China's customs ports. The book not only fills a gap in the field of longicorn beetle taxonomy but also serves as an important reference for plant quarantine work.
