First edition thus. Reprinted from Montagu's Ornithological Dictionary, and incorporating the Additional Species described by Selby; Yarrell, in all three editions; and in natural-history journals. George Montagu (1751-1815) was one of the most eminent ornithologists of his period. His most celebrated work, the Ornithological Dictionary, was first published in 1802, and reissued in several forms after his death, including this edition, edited by Edward Newman.

Condition
Demy 8vo in 4s, contemporary half calf, spine with raised bands, rich gilt-tooling and a contrasting leather title piece; marbled boards, endpapers and edges. Occasional light foxing, mostly confined to preliminaries. Early owner's name in ink to upper margin of title-page. Very good.
