Description:
Text English, with Thai common names. Thailand is a country rich in biodiversity and home to many endemic species. However, information accumulated through natural history surveys and research remains limited. At the same time, natural habitats are gradually declining, leading to a loss of biodiversity.
The Rabbit in the Moon Foundation recognises the urgent need to establish taxonomic and ecological information. Such information not only serves as important scientific evidence but also helps raise public awareness of natural resource conservation.
In 1963, Edward H. Taylor published the classic monograph The Lizards of Thailand, which recorded 116 species of lizards. After 63 years, this new volume has compiled and updated the total to 240 species. The team spent more than eight years, from 2018 to 2026, conducting research, collecting scientific data, and travelling throughout Thailand to photograph these lizards.
The production team placed great emphasis on the beauty of the photographs, colour accuracy, and the preparation of scientific illustrations. They also collaborated with institutions, experts, and wildlife photographers both in Thailand and abroad to further refine the information and visual materials included in the book.
With a total of 768 pages, this book presents the most up-to-date and comprehensive taxonomic information on the lizards of Thailand as of February 2026. It includes 240 native lizard species of Thailand, as well as three introduced species recorded in the country.
This is the first taxonomic book produced by the team of the Rabbit in the Moon Foundation. It is also the result of the foundation’s efforts to develop local expertise through hands-on fieldwork and proper, systematic research methods.
The production team sincerely hopes that both the content and beauty of this book will serve as an important academic reference for nature enthusiasts and inspire readers to further appreciate the delicate and intricate systems of the natural world.
