Led by Peter Scott the Severn Wildfowl Trust Expedition to the Hofsjökull in 1951 not only discovered the principal breeding ground of the pinkfoot in an oasis in the central desert of Iceland, but succeeded in catching and marking no less than 1151 geese and goslings.
