Description:
This work was first published 1705. This edition (1769) was published as Vol. IV of 'Plukenetii opera: voluminibus quatuor', which is complete in 4 volumes, with 454 plates; Vol. IV containing plates 351-454. The plates illustrate new and rare species, many from Plukenet's own vast herbarium, which contained more than 8,000 specimens. According to Pulteney the author quarrelled with most of the botanists of his age, particularly Sloane and Petiver but 'he had correspondents in all parts of the world; and had access to the gardens of the curious ... subjects, sent from China and the east Indies ... and with some from Florida'.
Henrey, 306(4); Nissen BBI, 1543; Plesch, 606.
