A bibliography of the literature on animal domestication, bringing together and annotating research published between 1900 and 1955 on the wild ancestry, origins and evolution of domestic mammals. Produced during the formative period of modern archaeozoology, it provides a valuable record of contemporary theories concerning the domestication of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, dogs and other mammals, immediately before radiocarbon dating and later genetic techniques substantially reshaped the subject.

Includes a short biography of Shimon Angress (1924-958), a German-born Israeli zoologist and archaeozoologist, specialised in the study of animal remains from prehistoric and ancient Near Eastern sites and was an early contributor to the scientific investigation of animal domestication. An enthusiastic collector of the fauna and archaeological remains of the Carmel region, he conceived a local natural-history museum which, following his premature death at 34, became the Nature House in Memory of Shimon Angress.
