Limited to 500 numbered and signed copies (this copy no. 18, and including a second copy of plate IX.1: Pseudaplemonas limonii, loosely inserted). The Apionidae are represented by over 450 species in the Western Palaearctic Region. This volume is the first of a projected series of approx. 10 volumes (of which only two were published), illustrating all the described species by single whole insect paintings by the author. The illustrations are x70 or x80 life size, highly detailed and meticulously executed.
The first volume includes a synopsis of the tribes, and keys to tribes and genera. Subsequent volumes covering each tribe were to include keys to species, distributional and biological data
Condition
Folio (450x330mm), orig. black boards, spine faded. Very light water stain and slight cockling to top and fore margin throughout. This copy from weevil specialist, Mike Morris's library, with a manuscript note addressed to him from the author listing a number of minor errors in text and images, and notes on colour reproduction in general.
