Description:
Second revised edition. Abel Chapman (1851-1929), a keen observer of nature and a notable conservationist, first published this work in 1889. In the Preface to the second edition, Chapman notes that 'The first section of the book - that relating to the Cheviots and moorlands of the Border - has been practically rewritten, and on a broader basis'. Illustrated by the author, with an additional drawing contributed by Charles Whymper.

8vo, orig. cloth, spine slightly faded, minor wear to spine ends, top edge gilt, endpapers browned. Vg. With decorative bookplate (depicting the Great Auk) of Scottish naturalist and ornithologist, Evelyn Vida Baxter (1879-1959).
