This is a wonderful book which is usable in Germany and western Austria, and I assume in the British Isles as well. In the neighbouring parts of Italy and Spain it will certainly prove useful, too, but one has to bear in mind that the Spanish side of the Pyrenees already harbours endemic species not reaching France.Thus it covers a huge part of Europe.

The Keys are beautifully illustrated by drawings and photos and distribution maps. Hints about possible confusions are also very useful.What you do not find is a critical discussion of the species and synonymies, but this is not really an important part of a field guide. For this the new volumes on Orthoptera in the Faune de France series should be consulted.
