Description:
Allan Octavian Hume (1829-1912) was a British political reformer, ornithologist, civil servant and big-game hunter who worked in British India. He was also a key founder of the Indian National Congress. The introduction includes an obituary of Hume, reproduced from The Times, which states that his big-game collection 'embraces specimens not only from India proper, but from Himalaya, Kuen-lun, the Pamirs, Burma, etc'.
Condition
8vo, orig. brown cloth, some staining to rear board. Withdrawn from the library of the Natural History Museum, London: a few ink stamps. Good.
