Michel Edmond de Selys Longchamps (1813-1900), is known as the founder of Odonatology. During his lifetime he amassed one of the finest collections of neuropteroid insects - now housed in the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. In his will, Selys left a large sum of money to encourage the work of specialists to describe his large zoological collections.
