Description:
For several years, we had the feeling that the collectors of cone shells needed some clarification on the Brazilian cones' diversity, as the number rose from 15 to 90 in 50 years.
Some consider that there are too many look-alike small species, leading to a risky situation with possible synonymies. Therefore, we decided to present the exhaustive range of Brazilian species with more than 800 pictures, supplying information that could not be found in previous publications, discussing each presented species and guaranteeing a rather complete comprehension of the variation of each species. With 13 genera, the diversity of Brazilian cones is only starting to be understood, as the Brazilian Atlantic Ocean coastline is very extended along 7500 kilometres, with a lot of different ecological conditions from subtropical Rio Grande do Sul to equatorial Amp? and depth from intertidal to 300 metres.
