Description:

Text German. This volume includes illustrations of characteristics relevant to identification for all 850 species known from Germany, complemented by species profiles with information on the biology, ecology and threats, as well as distribution maps. A separate volume is also available which contains keys to families and genera. Identifying bugs down to the species level is not always easy, often even a challenge. This book is intended to help quickly and accurately identify adults and, in some cases, larvae of this very diverse group of insects. In addition to verbal dichotomous keys down to the species level, all species native to Germany are illustrated in the form of more than 1,500 colour macrophotographs of adults and, in some cases, larvae. Colour symbols facilitate a quick overview of whether a species can be identified based on external characteristics or whether more in-depth investigation is necessary. Using over 3,000 scientific drawings, the relevant characteristics are presented and arranged side by side in the form of species charts. This makes practical identification work much easier. The presentation is supplemented by species profiles that summarize the current state of knowledge on biology, ecology, and distribution. Another new feature is the attempt to align the habitat preferences of individual species with Germany's biotope type key.
