Description:
First published 1976. Introduction by John Hunt. Everest the Hard Way is the account by Chris Bonington of the 1975 British expedition that achieved the first ascent of the South-West Face of Mount Everest, one of the most difficult and dangerous routes on the mountain. The route had already defeated five previous expeditions, including one led by Bonington. The expedition eventually succeeded when climbers Doug Scott and Dougal Haston reach the summit on 24 September 1975 after a gruelling ascent. Their achievement is considered one of the landmark climbs in Everest history because it opened a major new route up the mountain.
