Description:
Text Italian. This volume is a nature guide dedicated to the mycological biodiversity of the Alpine ecosystems of the Dolomites. Edited by specialists with many years’ experience in the study of Alpine mycology, the book documents 383 fungal species characteristic of Alpine grasslands and high-altitude environments, featuring 1,035 colour photographs alongside descriptions and scientific commentary.
Searching for macrofungi at high altitude has been, and still is, an activity that regularly informs our innate passion for fungi. This publication collects our individual experiences and those we've shared in the field, spanning thirty years for two of the three authors.
The goal of this guide is not so much to engage the mycologist specialising in high-altitude fungi, who possesses far more extensive consultation tools, but to inspire the mycology enthusiast to turn his gaze to the environments delimited by the verticality of the rock. Another less obvious, but perhaps more ambitious, goal is to attract the attention of many high-mountain hikers, unwitting witnesses to an extraordinary evolutionary history, and finally, to pique the curiosity of all those still capable of being moved by these tiny, colourful organisms we call mushrooms.
