Description:

Extremely scarce early volumes of these periodicals on British entomology (No. 1 of the Transactions lists only 33 Society members). All published up to 1939. Publication was begun by the 'Hampshire Entomological Society' with Transactions No. 1-4 (1924-1928); the Society then briefly became the 'Entomological Society of Hampshire and Southern England', for No. 5 (1929), before continuing as the 'Entomological Society of Southern England' for Nos 6-8 (1930-1932), and also issuing Journal Vol. I (1932-1933). Subsequently the name was changed again to the 'Society for British Entomology', which continued both journals, beginning the volume numbering of both from Vol. 1 under the new title - this run includes Transactions Vol. 1-6 (1934-1939) (of 19 published - publication ceased in 1971), and Journal Vol. 1-2 (Pt 2) (1934-1939) (of 6 published up to 1959). Also bound in with the first volume is Entomological Society of Hampshire - Report etc. for 1923 (listing only 29 members).
