Description:

Text Chinese, scientific names in Latin. Hematophagous midges are tiny insects belonging to the family Ceratopogonidae of the order Diptera. They sucks blood from humans, poultry, and livestock, spread diseases, and are an important group of medical vector insects. The book is divided into four chapters: General Introduction, Subfamily Nymphiinae, Subfamily Iron Midge, and Subfamily Midge. Chapter 1, General Introduction, provides a detailed introduction to the brief history of midge research, biology, hazards, control measures and collection, morphological characteristics, and molecular biology identification. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 respectively introduce the classification and distribution of the genus Euphyllus in the subfamily Escarinae, the genus Nymphia in the subfamily Pyromidinae, and the genus Cusa in the subfamily Nymphiinae. The book includes 125 species of 3 genera of bloodsucking midges discovered in Yunnan Province (including 2 new species). It compiles search tables by subfamily, genus, subgenus, and species, and provides detailed descriptions of various identification features, morphological features, geographic distribution, and specimen inspections. It includes 135 morphological feature illustrations for each species description. Based on morphological classification and identification, molecular biology gene sequence testing was performed on 44 species, with 44 gene sequence detection phylogenetic trees attached for readers to facilitate comparison and identification. At the end of the book, there are references and Chinese and Latin name indexes. This book can serve as a reference for personnel engaged in research, teaching, and health epidemic prevention in veterinary medicine, taxonomy, entomology, parasitology, epidemiology, and other fields.
