Facsimile edition with an introduction by Gordon Rowley. Charles A. Lemaire (1800-1871), a French botanist, published this illustrated work on Cactaceae between 1841-1847. Only 11 copies of the original edition are known. Lemaire originally intended the work to consist of 200 plates, but only 16 were ever published. This facsimile is based on the most complete surviving copy, from the library of the Natural History Museum, London
