With thirty-six original drawings by the author, from specimens in his cabinet. First editon. Very rare. Privatley published by the author in a very small edition, and illustrated by him with fine original watercolour drawings. Theophilus Johnson (1836-1919) was an English amateur naturalist, artist and publisher. He produced several works similar to this one, each illustrated with his own watercolour drawings. All are very rare.

4to, cont. half straight-grained morocco, gilt, top edge gilt, rubbed with minor wear to extremities. Occasional foxing to text leaves. Plates clean and bright.
