Description:
A large-format French photography and travel book by Pierre Ferrenbach, published in Paris by Jacques Damase Éditeur. It is best known as a visually striking photographic portrait of Iceland rather than a conventional travel guide.
The book contains full-page color photographs of Icelandic landscapes, including volcanoes, glaciers, lava fields, waterfalls, fjords, and geothermal areas, as well as historical and cultural material alongside the photographs, including references to Viking history, Icelandic sagas, and older travel accounts. Additional illustrations, reproductions of historical maps, and carefully designed typography typical of Jacques Damase's art books are also found. Particularly notable is the use of unusual silver-toned papers, whose metallic sheen evokes Iceland's unique light and landscape. A beautifully designed example of late twentieth-century French art-book production.
