Description:
Text French. An illustrated introductory work on entomology intended to encourage the young amateur collector, combining descriptions of the principal European butterflies with practical instructions on finding and catching them and on preparing and preserving specimens. The work was issued in two forms: a less expensive edition with plain plates and a more desirable issue with hand-coloured plates, as in the present copy. Established in the early 1840s, the Paris publisher Nicolas Amédée Bédelet specialised particularly in books for children and young readers.
