Description:
Alfred Serge Balachowsky (1901-1983) was born in Russia but spent most of his life in France. He was a pioneer of biological pest control. Félix Étienne Pierre Mesnil (1868-1938) was a French Biologist. Together they complied the first comprehensive reference work on insect pests in France. It became the standard reference for agronomists, farmers, and plant-health officials for decades. Volume 1 covers pests of fruit trees, vines, cereals and forages; volume 2 covers pests of vegetables, industrial crops, ornamentals, grains, stored products, and includes notes on insecticides. The work is illustrated with over 1,300 photographs and fine line drawings.
The work was issued in two formats. 750 sets were printed on Helio Navarre paper, a high-quality ivory-finish paper, this copy is stamped no. 119.
