Description:
Text Chinese with Latin scientific names. This 3-volume set provides a comprehensive overview (using up-to-date taxonomy) of over 2,100 butterfly species distributed throughout China in a richly illustrated format (including over 400 endemic species, covering butterflies listed in the national first- and second-class protection lists, as well as numerous rare species). The images for each species include representative ecological photographs, including fore- and hind wings, male and female (where sexual dimorphism occurs) and seasonal and regional variation (including subspecies). The species accounts include identification, habits, hostplants, and distribution. The text is divided into three parts: General Introduction, Specific Topics, and Index. The first part includes an overview of butterfly taxonomy, a brief introduction to the geographical distribution of butterflies in China, the adult morphology, life cycle, migration and dispersal, natural enemies and defence strategies, and butterfly conservation biology. The second part contains the species accounts, featuring rich illustrations of over 2100 butterfly species. The third part provides an index of corresponding Chinese and Latin scientific names, facilitating quick reference to relevant butterfly species.
