The Overview includes historical records as well as modern analyses of lizard taxonomy, evolutionary history, biogeography, ecology, conservation status.

The Species Accounts are based on up-to-date taxonomy and include newly described species, and new records for China, comprising the most complete checklist of Chinese lizards to date (315 species in 48 genera and 10 families, as well as 4 invasive species). Each species account provides information on: Chinese name, scientific name, synonyms, type locality, taxonomic notes, diagnostic features, habits, distribution, conservation status and protected class, and any harmful impacts. The book features 950 high-resolution ecological photos, showcasing the diversity, beauty, and life history of China’s lizards.

The Appendices include key references, indexes for Chinese and scientific names, and a full species list. The book also comes with a digital version of the Checklist for ease of searching and access to future updates.
