Description:

First edition. Scarce. Contains descriptions of numerous new species from around the world. Johann Christian Fabricius (1745-1808) was a Danish entomologist and a student of Linnaeus. He is considered one of the most important entomologists of the 18th century, he described many new species and established the basis for modern insect classification.

Condition

2 vols, 8vo (207x124mm), cont. full calf, worn, some loss to head of spine, torn to foot, joints cracked but firm; raised bands to spine, gilt tooling to compartments, red leather titlepiece, marbled endpapers, all edges tinted red. Some browning/spotting, occasional stains, including small stain to outer margin of first few leaves. The last two preliminary leaves to Tom. I are misbound, pp xvii/xviii follow page 340, and pp. xix/xx, p. 344. A sound copy of a scarce work.
