His name remains known for the temperature scale he invented, while his primary scientific importance rests on his Mémoires pour servir à l’histoire des insectes (six volumes, 1734-1742). This book has great significance for ecological sciences and de Reaumur is now considered the founder of insect ethology.

Condition
4to, recent half calf, leather title-pieces to spine, gilt lettering, marbled boards, new endpapers. Some minor offsetting and light scattered foxing. Faint old stain to the top of a few leaves and plates (not affecting text/illustrations). One plate with some edgewear. Very good.
