Ladybirds are among the most familiar of our native insects. There are approximately fifty species regarded as resident and extant in Britain and Ireland. Around half of these are the familiar 'macro' ladybirds, but there is another half to the family. Generally smaller and much less well known and studied, these 'micro' ladybirds are the subject of this book. Micro ladybirds are generally 4mm or less in length (2mm to 3mm is a typical range) and most lack spots. Almost every species can be identified alive in the field. This book provides highly illustrated species accounts showing the characteristic features of each species. Additional plates emphasise critical characters and allow side-by-side comparison.
