First edition. Jacket design by Clifford and Rosemary Ellis. This volume is the second by E.B. Ford to be published in the New Naturalist series (the first being Butterflies (1945). Edmund B. Ford (1901-1988) was a leading ecological geneticist based at the University of Oxford. Like his earlier volume, the approach is largely genetical, but also deals with problems of distribution and dispersal, the value of protective coloration, economic entomology, moth habitat, ecology and history.
