Description:

Text Chinese and English. This is the second of a two-part fauna of the moths found in the vicinity of the Tawainese Nanheng Road, which is one of three major cross-island highways. After suffering severe typhoon damage in 2009, the road has been closed to traffic for 13 years. During this time, moth research team members of the Taiwanese Endemic Species Research Institute (ESRI), together with Mr Chien-Ming Fu, Mrs Wen-Hsiang Cheng, and Dr Mamoru Owada have conducted over 60 systematic investigations with the assistance from government agencies (including Jiaxian Construction Section, Directorate General of Highways; Yujiang Station, Chiayi Forest District Office, Forestry Bureau; and Yushan National Park Headquarters). They have collected moths at over 20 sites along Nanheng west from Meishan and east to Wulu.

Part 1 dealt with 22 families and 907 species while this book deals with 22 families and 1013 species. Deducting one family that is duplicated in the two volumes, therefore, the total list of moth species found in the Nanheng Area contains 1920 species belonging to 43 families. All the identified species from the Nanheng Area are included. In addition, the book discusses the genera and species that are rare, uncommon or have no clear taxonomic explanation or previous bionomics. Several new taxa (including 14 new species) are described from the Nanheng or other areas in Taiwan or Japan. A total of 29 species are newly recorded from different habitats in Taiwan and other areas. Altogether 22 moth families and 1013 species are recorded and illustrated in this book. An additional note is given if the species does not occur in Nanheng Area.
